Hélène Vézina, director of the Balsac infrastructure, is co-author of this chapter in the book available online Human Evolutionary Demography where Balsac's data were used for the analysis. The text compares the fertility rate of mothers in the 19th and 20th centuries in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean with data sets from Sweden and the United States. The purpose of the text is to analyze the influence of grandmothers' proximity on the fertility rate of their daughters and daughters-in-law.
